2024 summer research software development apps were quite a challenge for both our students and their mentors. We are so proud to count a total of 38 students from Babeș-Bolyai University Cluj-Napoca, from Sapientia University Târgu-Mureș and from ELTE – Eötvös Loránd University from Budapest! It turned out to be quite an international programme, deployed in our three offices from Transylvania, Romania.

At the end of the summer, we had the honor of experiencing the impressive final presentations from our summer software development interns at Softech | Codespring! The teams dived into cutting-edge projects, sharpening their skills and unleashing creativity across multiple areas.  A huge round of applause to our interns for their hard work and ingenuity! We’re proud of their progress and can’t wait to see where your talent leads you next!

Cluj-Napoca Software Development Summer Internship

In our Cluj-Napoca head offices, we have welcomed 12 students from the Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, the Faculty of Informatics. They worked in groups of two and were mentored by a pair of two mentors, depending on the target programming languages and technology stack to be used in the project. In September, the final presentations took place and it was a real joy to see their fantastic results!

  • LORD (Logistics for Ordering and Rapid Delivery) – a system that provides a generic solution for a business that sells a product and delivers them. The web application acts as a web shop for customers. The mobile application provides the business with order tracking and helps optimize delivery with built-in navigation. Technologies: React, React Native, Firebase.
  • ChatBot a solution to help retrieve information from a large document, without reading it. The app answers user queries using an open source, pre-trained web based on a RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) method.
  • RoboticArms an app using a multi-functional lightweight intelligent robotic arm. The practice consisted of using software, hardware and expansion interfaces to maximize their creative freedom.
  • Navigation with UWB location detection – a solution featuring installation of ultra-wideband devices in the desired location inorder to use them for GPS coordinates indetification. The solution aims to pick up the missing route data and use the calculated GPS coordinates to reveal position and plan a route on a map. Methods and tools: triangulation, mapbox API.
  • Parking Lot Identifier – is a parking space management and occupancy determination app using artificial intelligence. The project aims to allow the system to automatically determine as many parameters as possible, e.g. when dealing with cases where the camera’s field of view shifts, so that no human interaction is required in such cases.
  • StoryGraph – A visual interface based on a graph database for collaborative editing and reading of stories/books. The resulting stories would not necessarily be read in a linear way, but could be “branched” in several directions, or could be read from several different authors’ (viewpoints) perspectives.

Târgu – Mureș Software Development Summer Internship

In our Târgu Mureș office, 13 students from Sapientia University of Transylvania have been admitted this year. The Summer Internship is an integral part of the Codespring Mentoring Programme. The results of the three-month internship were finally presented to their teachers, mentors and Codespring staff at Sapientia EMTE Faculty of Informatics. Each presentation was followed by a short discussion, during which the team presenting the project could answer questions from the audience and respond to constructive comments on their work.

  • 3KCAL a calorie counting app. Its main functions include: using AI model to determine nutritional data based on an image, and adding and keeping track of the food eaten and its data. Some of the technologies used are Flutter, Python, NodeJS, Docker, Kubernetes.
  • EventHub – The project involved the creation of an event management website based on a microservice architecture. It consists of four main services: a Next.js based web application, a .NET API with PostgreSQL database, an importing service that collects event data using scraping techniques and the Facebook Graph API, and an AI Scraper that automatically collects information about events based on links using artificial intelligence.
  • Skinology – The Skinology mobile app helps users to take better care of their skin and to take better care of their skin by following routines. Our motto: “Healthy skin, happy you!” One of the features of the app is that it provides more information about the ingredients of our favourite skincare products. The app allows users to create skincare routines and enter the steps, so they can easily track their daily skincare routine and receive a reminder of each step.
  • SmartHome is a smart home or even smart office design and management platform. The project consists of two parts: a mobile app that allows users to monitor environmental information (e.g. temperature, humidity, door or window status) measured by sensors and smart devices in the building, and a web-based admin interface where users with admin rights manage other users. In addition, they can create rooms, specify their layout and the position of the sensors in them, and then use the floor planner to place the rooms on different floors.
  • TippWizard application is designed to allow users to bet on their favourite football team and compete with each other. Users can participate in tournaments within teams and place their bets. Scoring is determined by the group creator. A tournament is a betting competition for a league match. The application is a website with a frontend implemented using React and TypeScript, with MUI components used for a modern design. C# was used for the backend, while the database was implemented using .net and PostreSQL.
  • Vitalink: Considering that smartphones are nowadays the daily device of choice for more than 86% of the population, it would be worthwhile to develop an application that could help people monitor the health of their heart. Vitalink provides a simple and intuitive way to get personalized data about your heart rate without having to buy an extra device. It allows users to regularly check their heart rate and track the results of their family members. The app helps you monitor your heart rate and its changes with constantly updated information and alerts.
