When the IT market faces significant challenges, most companies understandably put the greatest emphasis on developing their current workforce and optimizing costs. Alongside these goals, SOFTECH | Codespring continues to prioritize training the software developers of the future. That is why, for the seventeenth consecutive year, we have organized the Codespring Mentoring Program, through which 21 computer science students began their summer internships this year at our three offices in Transylvania.

Over the past nearly three decades, the market and our company’s work processes have gone through numerous fundamental changes, which have inspired us to keep innovating and evolving—not only to keep up, but also to continuously expand our company and our business activities.

Softech Summer Internships

The pace of market changes and new technology adoption has quickened dramatically in recent years. These developments have challenged market participants in significant ways, causing numerous companies to either stall or act cautiously. Recruitment processes have slowed down or stagnated in many companies, while young people seeking employment face increasing difficulties and uncertainty about finding a job.

The Mentoring Program – A Win-Win for Both Sides

For SOFTECH | Codespring, however, developing and fostering the next generation of IT professionals has been a top priority for 17 years now.

In my opinion, the current context only raises the bar for adaptability and engineering excellence. That is why, we actively followed through with our 2026 internship program.” – stated László Barabás, PhD, CTO at SOFTECH Engineering.

We truly believe that, in order to sustain our position in the ever-changing IT market, it is essential not only to keep our existing, stable, experienced, and highly skilled workforce and to continuously invest in their development, but also to train the next generation of highly qualified professionals equipped with market-relevant skills. That is why, starting from the first year, we organize theoretical and thematic training sessions for IT students from Târgu Mureș and Cluj-Napoca within the Codespring Mentoring Program, providing students with market-ready knowledge that complements the university curriculum.

The second, practical phase of the mentoring program is the summer internship following the second year, available in all three cities where our offices are located: Cluj-Napoca, Târgu Mureș, and Odorheiu Secuiesc. During the internship phase, students work in pairs to develop a new project idea, guided by experienced software developers from SOFTECH Engineering. During this summer, students gain hands-on experience in every phase of project development, from brainstorming and planning through to the presentation of the finished “product.”

At the same time, during the internship, we often see that the new generation arrives with a whole wealth of fresh ideas and new perspectives – by incorporating these into our workflow, we not only support the students’ learning but our team also continues to improve.

The cherry on top is the opportunity for the students to build professional relationships. Working together with fellow students and their mentors lays the foundation of their professional network, which can be a huge advantage when entering the job market later on.

The 2026 Internship Projects in Târgu Mureș

This year, nine students from Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania are completing their internships at our office in Târgu Mureș, from early July to early September:

–    7 second-year students from the Informatics program
–    2 third-year students from the Computer Science program.

Together with their mentors from our Codespring team, they have formed four teams, which are developing the following projects this year:

Medical Data Platform: A web platform that allows doctors to upload results from different types of medical examinations. The software anonymizes the uploaded data, also handling different file formats and diverse data. AI can be used to support the anonymization process, and the project also includes big-data handling solutions.

Mirror360: An internal, digital 360-degree performance evaluation system, designed to modernize a company’s current Excel-based process. The application lets employees fill out, manage, and track evaluations online. The system automatically collects responses and generates statistics, charts, and metrics, and summaries at both an individual and organizational level – all exportable and presented visually.

FitVision: A real-time workout-form coach that evaluates exercise technique through a webcam or smartphone camera. Using 33 or 17 detected body keypoints, the software would automatically recognize which exercise the user is performing, it evaluates the exercise, flags technical mistakes, and offers personalized tips to improve form. The platform also tracks long-term progress, so users can see their improvement.

Premium Tool & Equipment Rental: The app lets people rent out their rarely used, higher-value tools and equipment. Owners earn some passive income, while renters save money instead of buying these tools. Payment process, similar to Vinted, would include a security deposit to protect the owner. The project offers a lot of learning opportunities for students, touching on trust, payments, and logistics all at once.

Babes -Bolyai Univeristy Students Working on Digitization

From mid-July until mid-September, we are hosting 12 students from Babeș–Bolyai University (UBB Cluj) for their summer internships: one student from the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, and 11 students from the Faculty of Computer Science.

Four students have joined our team at the office in Odorheiu Secuiesc, where they are developing the following projects:

Homework tracker and course inventory: The application functions as a digital school directory and homework tracker that can be used by the principal, vice principal, teachers, students, and parents alike. Students can anonymously upload their homework and ask additional questions about it. An AI-powered chatbot would also help students understand the lesson. Parents, meanwhile, receive notifications about homework assignments whose submission deadlines are approaching.

Image-based map overlay and navigation: A tool that lets you overlay any photographed or printed map – whether it’s a festival layout or a forest hiking trailboard – onto your phone’s built-in map. From then on, you can navigate in real time using physical maps with the help of the built-in GPS. The maps could also be shared by the organizers and users.

Big City and Smart Solutions

The four teams from Cluj-Napoca also aim to develop cutting-edge solutions to current problems during their summer internship.

Teams Ops Bot: A Teams chatbot that provides access to company platforms, APIs, and documentation. It features an internal company Q&A, ranging from basic details to project statuses and in-house industry-specific documentation; requesting time off, locking the timesheet via chat, ticketing assistance, launching pipeline jobs using natural language, querying job results, and cloud platform resource information.

TripWeaver: A travel planning software that compiles options and recommendations based on the parameters, expectations, and priorities provided by users (accommodations, round-trip travel, local transportation, activities, etc.), categorized according to the specified budget. Reviews from other travellers can also be considered. Artificial intelligence can contribute to multiple phases of the application.

Apartment Finder: A web and/or mobile app that allows a more advanced search for apartments than the existing websites. Besides the number of rooms, street/location, and price range, this app would also filter results based on factors such as proximity to cafés, parks, gyms, department store, or city center. The software would collect apartment listings from multiple sources, also show specific statistics, helping users to make more informed decisions.

Babel – congregational interpreter service: The software called “Babel – Virtual Congregation” would provide real-time translation of live preaching into other languages on-site, in the church. In a multilingual setting, people who don’t understand the language of the sermon could read or listen to the live translation on their phones by scanning a QR code. The software would allow users to follow the live event via a stream, along with automatic captioning and interpretation in the selected language. The event or sermon would be automatically archived.

Further Development of the Projects

The summer period will also feature soft skills training and various team-building programs. At the end of the two months, the students will present their completed prototypes to their mentors and to the colleagues of SOFTECH|Codespring. In their next academic year, they can keep working on these projects, which they can also present at state exams and student research conferences – and they can still count on their mentors’ guidance throughout this process.
