December 2016, Romania was ranked 4th in the world and 2nd in Europe in the top of the countries that attended the Hour of Code programme. In line with the United States of America, Canada and Italy, the ro.code.org platform was accessed by 1.500.000 unique users between the 5th and 11th of December 2016. About 1.900 of Hour of Code events have been organized across the entire country – from kindergardens, associations, companies, libraries and inclusive education centers. In Cluj-Napoca, 14 institutions have hosted and organized Hour of Code events in 2016.

Hour of Code is one of the biggest educational events in history aiming  to encourage pupils to learn technology and to offer them the chance to discover if they like one of the most internationally soughtafter skills – programming. During this one hour of code, each Romanina that has accessed the programme was able to learn some of the basics of programming.

The Code.org courses are available in 45+ languages, used in all 180+ countries. In Romania the event was at its 3rd edition and was organised mainly by adfaber.org.

As presented on hourofcode.com, an hour is just enough to learn that computer technology is fun and creative, accessible for all ages, to all students, no matter where they come from. The measure of success of this campaign is not how much they get to learn during this hour – the success is reflected in the wide participation, independent of sex, ethnic or socio-economic group, and the increasing enrollement for programming and information technology classes. Millions of teachers and students have decided to continue learning above the one hour timeline for one day, one week or complete courses. That is considered the real measure of success.
