On September 29, 2018, the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industries (Deutsch-Rumänische Industrie- und Handelskammer (AHK Rumänien)) officially opened its territorial office in Cluj-Napoca: AHK Transylvania Office. After a sound presence of 15 years in the Romanian business environment with head-offices in Bucharest, the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce made this important step of empowering the business German community in Cluj-Napoca (known as Klausenburg).

According to the official press release published on October 1st on AHK R Rumänien website, one of the main objectives of AHK Transylvania Office is to grasp the main economic aspects of Transylvania region and to discuss them with key business environment players. The roundtable on the dual education system reinforces the Chamber’s objective of promoting this system.

The President of the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce (Deutsch-Rumänische Industrie- und Handelskammer (AHK Rumänien)), Mr. Dragoș Anastasiu declared as stated in the press release: „The opening of this office will help us to better understand the problems that occur at regional level.  We will get involved and we will support local companies both through the work groups established within AHK Rumänien  and through collaboration with other organizations when necessary, especilly when direct communication with public institutions is required”.

Why Cluj?

Cluj County is important for the German economy because 435 German companies out of 7500 at national level are established here. This stands for 6% of the total German active companies in Romania.

Cluj-Napoca is the 2nd city of Romania and it is extremely well connected to Europe. It also has a very active public administration team and an innovative dynamic business community.

On top of all the above, Cluj-Napoca has an excellent reputation as an academic center which delivers quality graduates both in STEM areas and Humanities.  This provides the foundations for encouraging R&D activities.
